Police Officer Shares 18 Years of Experience Using TASER Devices

My name is Blake. I've been a police officer for 18 years.

I've used TASER devices my entire 18 years during my career. It's been a less lethal tool that's on my belt that we've used day in and day out as an option. Another tool in our toolbox.

The first time I remember using my TASER - I think everybody probably remembers the first time they deployed one - was after a vehicle pursuit or someone took off on foot.

As I caught up to them, they were wearing real baggy clothing with pockets in the front of a hoodie, and began to turn away from me and dive into their hoodie for some sort of unknown item. I didn't know what it was. And when they wouldn't turn around and continue digging, I deployed a TASER and it struck them in the back.

Just as I've used it in the field, like the instance I just described to you, I've had a really good success rate, whether it be from some of the earlier iterations from the X26 all the way up now until the seven. If you get a good deployment and it hits somebody, you definitely get NMI (Neuromuscular Incapacitation). It's very effective. Not only do I know that because I've used it in the field, but also being tased multiple times myself. So I have experienced that as well. So I know that the tool works.

I would totally trust giving a TASER, as a tool, to a family member.

Particularly my mother, who I know would never carry a firearm. I would have total confidence in her carrying one of these when she was out on a walk, whether she was out in public at the grocery store or anywhere else she might go.
