TASER HEALTH & SAFETY QUESTIONS

NMI is the motor-nerve stimulation of the skeletal muscles that occurs when electrical pulses temporarily interfere with the command and control systems of the body.

No. There are currently over 800 scientific and medical studies, research papers, articles, etc. about TASER CEWs, approximately 77% of which were conducted by independent entities with no funding or support from Axon (or formerly TASER International, Inc.).

High voltage, in and of itself, is not dangerous. Please reference our Civilian CEW Safety Document.

In many cases, the darts leave small probe or contact wounds, and the subjects are able to recover following the exposure. Please consult our Civilian CEW Safety Document for more details

Please refer to our Civilian CEW Safety Document.

GENERAL TASER QUESTIONS

Only the TASER StrikeLight is rechargeable. However, the batteries on all other TASERs are user replaceable and provide enough energy for many uses.

All TASERs are equipped with back-up stun gun features to be used after the cartridge has been deployed regardless of whether or not the spent cartridge is still in the TASER or not.

- Aim to “Split the belt.” The LASER indicates the area where the top probe will make contact. The bottom probe may make contact below the top probe.
- Top probe should be aimed in the lower center mass or abdomen area
- Bottom probe should strike in the thigh area
- Avoid head, neck, genital area if possible.

TASERs work by firing two pronged darts which are propelled by compressed nitrogen. The darts are tethered to insulated copper wire which conduct the electricity from the TASER into the attacker’s body. When both darts hit, if the electrical circuit is completed and maintained, it may cause the attackers muscles to contract and they may lose voluntary muscle control.

Each cartridge can only be fired once but can deliver multiple electrical cycles. That means that while the darts can only be projected at a target once, as long as the darts remain in the target after the initial 30-second electrical cycle (5-seconds for the X2 and X26), subsequent electrical cycles can be engaged.

All TASER energy weapons are equipped with a back-up stun gun feature. In the event that the user misses with the probes, the TASER can still be used as a stun gun even with spent cartridge still in device (or after it is removed of course).

Most state have no special requirements or permits that are need for possession. For more information, see our ownership guide or visit our state requirements page.

TASER devices are legal to own for civilians in 48 states.

Please visit our state requirements page for more information on TASER Ownership by State.

No. Civilians may only purchase 15-foot cartridges. Only Law Enforcement agencies can buy cartridges of other lengths.

All new TASER devices come pre-activated. Only older models of the TASER C2 may need to be activated. This can be determined by examining the LED light located beside the button trigger which can be revealed by sliding back the safety cover. If the LED light is GREEN, the device is already activated. If the light is RED, the device needs to be activated. Email team@taser.com with your serial number and that your device needs to be activated for fastest response.

No. All new devices come pre-registered to the purchaser. Just be sure to keep a copy of your receipt or other proof of purchase.

In many cases, the darts can be removed with a firm pluck. for further information, please refer to our Civilian CEW Safety Document.

The C2/Bolt, Pulse, and Pulse+ all use approximately the same current, voltage and waveform. They are all equally effective at stopping an attacker in his tracks.

All other stun guns only induce pain and do not incapacitate muscle or knock down an attacker. Only a TASER weapon is equipped with neuromuscular incapacitation which may immobilize an attacker.

The darts can penetrate clothing and the electricity can also jump up to two inches of combined distances between the probes and the skin.

As probe connection and probe spread are the primary conditions for NMI, a probe deployment's ability to induce NMI does not depend on the target's mental state.

A TASER CEWs may work just as well on a 300-pound man as they will on a 150-pound woman.

Backed by real, caring dispatchers, Noonlight will send emergency services (police, fire, or emergency medical services) when you manually trigger an alarm using the Noonlight app, or when one of your connected devices detects an emergency (car accident, heavy smoke or CO, break-in, and more).
